Russell County Stockyard is much different than when the Loy Brothers became co-owners in 1989. At the time, they leased the old building, located on Lakeway Drive in Russell Springs, from the stockholders of the Veterans Fairground. While this location had served the community well in the past, the expanding business quickly outgrew the space.

With a maximum occupancy of 800 cattle, the old yard could not accommodate the increasing number of cattle received each week. A new site was then chosen to solve this issue along with several others including a lack of running water and no indoor plumbing. The new location would become home to a state-of-the-art facility, offering the much-needed amenities for the comfort of both the livestock and the patrons.

Construction on the new 80,000 square foot building began in 1994 after the Loys purchased a 28-acre tract just south of the Cumberland Parkway off Hwy 127 in Russell Springs, Kentucky. A theater style sales area for 250 equipped with real time computerized technology was incorporated, along with a buyer’s lounge and a full-service restaurant with a home-style menu. The new stockyard was designed to house up to 3,000 head of cattle, nearly quadruple that of the previous facility.

The business has continued to grow since then and has developed into one of the top livestock markets in the region. Come out to Russell County Stockyard and let us show you what we’re all about. Thank you for your past business and we hope to continue serving you in the future!
